What to expect
Starting at Honister Slate Mine, the route climbs quickly to Black Star, the high point of Honister Crag, before continuing to Fleetwith Pike with its dramatic drop towards Buttermere. From there, the path heads over Green Crag and on to the rocky knolls and tarns of Haystacks, including a visit to Innominate Tarn near Innominate Peak.
The day continues across the quieter tops of Seavy Knott and Brandreth, before finishing with a gentle ascent of Grey Knotts and a descent back to Honister. Expect a tough but rewarding high-level circuit with rugged ground, varied summits and big Lake District views throughout.
