What to expect

The Remembrance Day walk up Great Gable is a steady but challenging hike to one of the most iconic summits in the Lake District. Each year, walkers gather at the top on the nearest Sunday to November 11th to pay their respects at the Fell & Rock Climbing Club's war memorial, which overlooks the Wasdale valley.

The ascent involves a good climb, rocky terrain, and exposed sections, but the pace is manageable with time to rest on the way up. At the summit, a short, informal service takes place, followed by a quiet moment of reflection. It's a powerful experience in a dramatic setting — expect changeable weather, a busy but respectful atmosphere, and a proper day out in the hills.

For each hike we calculate a suitable time based on the distance and terrain. We do our very best to accommodate the speed of the group we are leading, whilst providing the encouragement needed to complete the challenge.
