WHAT TO EXPECT - DETAILED ITINERY:

Friday 29th Aug - ARRIVAL & WELCOME
From 3:00pm - Arrive at Ambleside Youth Hostel, check in to your shared dorm room, and take some time to settle in.

The hostel sits right on the shore of Windermere with amazing views - perfect for a quiet moment, pre-dinner wander down by the water or a drink on the terrace. Our Mountain Leaders will be around from 5pm - 6pm for a pint and to brief everyone on the upcoming weekend. The last time for evening meal is 8:30pm.

SATURDAY - BIG LAKELAND LOOP
7:30-8:30am - Breakfast served. You'll also make up your packed lunch for the day from the hostel's lunch station (bread, snacks, fruit, etc).

9am - Meet outside the hostel for our first hike which will be a 10 mile intermediate hike with a few steeper rocky sections. We'll start from Ambleside and head out through Scandale Pass, climbing steadily to Little Hart Crag. From there, we'll continue along the ridge to Dove Crag, one of the classic Fairfield horseshoe tops, before diverting off to bag High Pike. Expect a mix of grassy slopes, rocky ridgelines, and far-reaching views across to the Helvellyn range and Windermere below. It's a proper fell walk - peaceful, high-level, and seriously scenic.

Approx. 3:30 - 4pm - Return to the hostel for a drink, shower, and a well-earned rest. The evening is your own, we will be be organising an optional group meet in Ambleside after dinner if you are feeling sociable! The last time for evening meal is 8:30pm.

SUNDAY - CAVES, GRASMERE & FAREWELLS
7:30-8:30am - Breakfast & pack up your things (we'll have access to a luggage room for anything you don't want to carry on the walk)

9am - Head out on our second walk: Loughrigg, Rydal Caves & Grasmere Circular - 8 miles. This will be a gentler pace, rolling terrain, scenic throughout. This loop takes us with a stop at the atmospheric Rydal Caves, we'll then walk around the edge of Rydal water and Grasmere. There is an optional stop in Grasmere for a drink, then we will return via the old coffin route, a peaceful high-level track used for centuries to carry villagers to St. Oswald's Church.

2:30-3pm - Return to the hostel. We'll say our goodbyes and head off home with tired legs and hopefully a recharged mind!
