FAQ
Below we have tried to outline some of our Frequently Asked Questions, but if you do have one that is not covered, please feel free to Contact Us!
Please check the location and meeting time section on each experience's webpage to see what time and where to meet, as this differs with each experience we offer.
Absolutely! 90% of our participants are solo hikers and adventurers. We pride ourselves on getting together like minded folk to create laughs, memories, and friendships! So there's no need to feel worried about your first experience, or indeed trying a new type of outdoor activity, with us.
We don’t set an upper age limit - if you’re able and willing to come and join our experiences safely then you’re very welcome to do so.
Some of our challenge walks and Day Experiences do accept under 18s, but these minors must be accompanied at all times by their parent/guardian, as Trekking Tom Experiences does not hold an AALA Licence.
Yes we do! If you become a returning client, you will get discounts on any further hikes!
We keep a close eye on the weather on a daily basis using specific mountain forecasts. If the weather is forecast to be dangerous, we will endeavour to let you know by 4pm the day before the event, but 24 hours beforehand if possible.
As the Lake District is a mountainous region, the weather can change in a matter of hours. If its just rain, we are unlikely to cancel. If on the day the weather deteriorates, the guide will make a decision to change the route or possibly cancel the event. In the event of the latter, a change of date to try again will be available.
We ask that you have a basic level of fitness to be able to cope with being on your feet for 6+ hours over potentially rough terrain. We understand that the nature of some people booking a guide is because they have limited to no experience hillwalking, so we don't expect you to be super hill fit. You will be asked to complete a medical waiver before your chosen event to state you understand the risks that part and parcel with outdoor activities.
Please view our terms and conditions.
At certain meet points, there are toilets which are stated on each of the individual hikes - although we cannot guaruntee availabilty.
On some of our hikes, dogs are permitted. They will need to be well behaved and on the lead due to livestock in the area. Please contact us on what routes are safe for dogs.
